Norske kvinner og menn s\u00f8kte seg til dei nederlandske sm\u00e5statane for \u00e5 finne arbeid innanfor skipsfart, handverk og hushald. Hollendarane s\u00f8kte ogs\u00e5 til Norge. Her fann dei etterspurde r\u00e5varer, og hollandske skuter frakta t\u00f8mmer og trelast fr\u00e5 Norge og ut i verda lenge f\u00f8r vi fekk v\u00e5r eigen handelsfl\u00e5te. Dette har prega ettertida meir enn dei fleste er klar over.
