Hansen kj\u00f8rt i ambulanse til Fatebene Fratelli-hospitalet, det katolske sykehuset p\u00e5 Tiber\u00f8ya som han utallige ganger hadde foredratt om for nordmenn p\u00e5 bes\u00f8k i byen. Da han v\u00e5knet av narkosen var det h\u00f8yre benet amputert over kneet. <\/p>\n<p>Han skulle aldri mer g\u00e5 i Romas gater. Han hadde mistet et ben &#8211; og et levebr\u00f8d. Men han hadde ikke mistet det vesentligste: spr\u00e5ket. <\/p>\n<p>Det opplevdes som et st\u00f8rre tap da ogs\u00e5 fingrene sviktet i polynevropati sommeren 2013. Skribenten kunne ikke lenger skrive annet enn for h\u00e5nd. Denne erindringsboken er derfor skrevet p\u00e5 den gamle m\u00e5ten. Med forbl\u00f8ffende spr\u00e5klig overskudd, humor og sarkasmer, men ogs\u00e5 i takknemlighet, skildres den avgrunnsdype kulturforskjellen mellom det italienske og norske helseregimet. <\/p>\n<p>Etter \u00e5 ha avbrutt rekonvalesensen i Norge vendte Jan E. Hansen hjem til Roma i rullestol. Julen 2015 samlet han tankene og fortalte sin historie, ansikt til ansikt med ingen andre enn seg selv, med penn p\u00e5 linjert papir. Det er blitt en bok om tap, men i enda st\u00f8rre grad om vennskap og n\u00e5de, og som han selv skriver det i forordet: \u00abOm livet, f\u00f8r det var for sent\u00bb.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I desember 2011 ble Jan E.
