Peter Butensch\u00f8n er s\u00e6rlig kjent som arkitekturskribent og kritiker og som tidligere fast arkitekturmedarbeider i Dagbladet. Han har ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6rt redakt\u00f8r av tidsskriftet Byggekunst, prosjektsjef og daglig leder for IN\\’BY, r\u00e5dgiver i Kulturdepartementet. Han tok initiativet til opprettelsen av, og var mellom 1992\u20132002, direkt\u00f8r for institusjonen Norsk Form, et senter for arkitektur, design og bygningsmilj\u00f8. I 2000 ble han valgt til president i den internasjonale designorganisasjonen ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design).
