I Norge er det funnet over 24 000 mynter fra perioden ca. 1050-1319. Myntfunnene utgj\u00f8r utgangspunktet for mye av v\u00e5r kunnskap om mynt, penger og \u00f8konomiske forhold i Norge i denne formative perioden i norsk middelalderhistorie, ofte referert til som Norges storhetstid.<\/p>\n

Denne boken inneholder et corpus over alle kjente norske myntfunn fra perioden, et inn.samlingsarbeid som ble p\u00e5begynt i 1877 gjennom systematiske registreringer av Laurentius B. Stenersen, den gang leder for Universitetets Myntkabinett. I denne boken blir myntfunnene for f\u00f8rste gang presentert samlet.<\/p>\n

Myntfunn fra skatter, fra kirkegulv, gravgods, stolpehull i stavkirker, borganlegg og kongsg\u00e5rder, byer og markedsplasser er gjort av arkeologer, metalls\u00f8kere og andre. Sammen med historiske og arkeologiske kilder danner myntene utgangspunkt for diskusjoner av mynt.bruk og myntenes utbredelse og betydning i middelaldersamfunnet.<\/p>\n

Hvor monetarisert var Norge i middelalderen? Var penger en forutsetning for byutvikling og kirkeorganisasjon, eller var kirken og byen drivkrefter for myntbruk? Hva var forholdet mellom norsk og utenlandsk valuta i oml\u00f8p? Hvor var arenaene for myntbruk? Eksisterte det en ressurskrise i det 12. \u00e5rhundre?<\/p>\n
