Han har gjendiktet diktverk av Byron (Don Juan), Keats (Endymion) og Blake (Milton og Uskyldens og erfaringens sanger) og skrev en anerkjent Blake-biografi i 2000, <em>Den kosmiske smie<\/em>. Den ble etterfulgt i 2008 av <em>Et verdensdyp av frihet<\/em>, om Henrik Wergeland. I 2017 presenterte Uthaug sine ideer om romantikken som \u00e5ndsretning i <em>Romantikkens univers<\/em>. Siden han p\u00e5 begynnelsen av 2000-tallet ble opptatt av debatten rundt Shakespeares identitet, har han skrevet artikler og holdt foredrag om emnet.
